Location No.07

Behind the thick red velvet curtains within the Connaught Hotel, hides 'The Red Room'.

Allow yourself to be drawn into this mysterious and intimate wine bar as you step into a room full of magical creativity.

Statement-pieces of art hang within the bar, created by four female artists bringing the bar a powerful feminine elegance.

On arrival, we were presented with the menus along with water in beautiful red spotted hand-crafted Murano glasses, made specifically for The Red Room from Italy.

The cocktails are wine based, inspired by the changing seasons. I choose ‘A Shade of Red’ mocktail, crafted with Sauvignon Blanc juice, infused with Martini Vibrante Cedro. The drink arrived, a dark garnet red colour, in the most elegantly thin stemmed coupe glass garnished with a lively twist of orange. Its bright zesty orange aromas made the drink come alive, as the bar's conversational chatter between guests faded into the background.

For me, hospitality is all about creating unique experiences. Experiences that are different, that make you remember and combine your senses through a story.

The bar's curved lined interiors match its sensory experience of deep-toned music, tasteful drinks, silky velvet feel sofas and deeply creative ambience. A striking enigmatic painting hangs above the fireplace, through the candlelight, I read the words ‘I am rouge’ which appeared handwritten in a cherry red, across a large canvas, evoking such mystery.

The bar's discreet detailing, from unusual hanging lights, curved sofas, mosaic pillars and tables with the corners cut off, gives such profound style and uniqueness.

Adjoining the bar is a tiny alcove with a single table, called The Snug. Its dark and rich interiors of a deep red-brown, style and privacy make it the perfect cosy area to enjoy the bar's atmosphere. Intricate detailing from the draping hexagon pieces of glass which hang from above The Snug's oval shaped room enhances its style. The perfect place for intimate parties and celebrations.

Next door to The Red Room is the hotel's cigar bar. Connected through a doorway, the smoky brown interior creates the perfect backdrop for hotel guests to enjoy smoking the finest cigars indoors. The Cigar Room is brought to life with a collection of rare cigars, paired with spirts complementing the experience, carefully chosen by the Head of Cigars – one of only 33 Masters of Havana Cigars in the world.

Indulge in the menu, from wine-based cocktails to the finest caviar, oysters and black truffle pizzas as you enjoy your dynamic experience at The Connaught.

I thought the bar had great character and personality. A place where creative design sits side by side with luxury and quality. The creative interior of The Red Room is the work of Bryan O'Sullivan, an international interior designer. Known for using high quality and natural materials creating curvilinear shapes and contemporary styles, which are inspired from French and Italian architecture of the 1940s-60s.
